Dhaka: The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has taken a decisive step by forming an eight-member committee to investigate the recent power grid failure that affected the Khulna region. This significant move aims to address and rectify the issues that led to the disruption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the committee is chaired by Professor Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of BUET. The official order for its formation was issued today, underscoring the urgency of the investigation. The committee has a clear mandate to identify the cause of the grid failure, assign responsibility to individuals or institutions involved, and propose measures to prevent future occurrences.
The committee has been granted the flexibility to include additional members as deemed necessary. It is expected to deliver a comprehensive report, complete with findings and recommendations, within the next seven working days. The inclusion of experts from various sectors highlights the government's commitment to a thorough and effective investigation.
The committee's current members include BUET Professor Dr. Mohammad Ehsan, Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) of Khulna Md. Firoz Shah, Member (P and D) of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board Md. Shahidul Islam, Chief Engineer (Director) of the West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited Md. Abdul Majid, Superintending Engineer of the System Protection and Testing Commissioning Cell of BPDB Md. Atikur Rahman, Chief Engineer of Transmission-1 of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) Mohammad Fayzul Kabir, and Power Division's Senior Assistant Secretary Md. Mazharul Islam.
