Patuakhali: BNP acting Chairman and Chief Patron of 'Amra BNP Paribar' Tarique Rahman extended support to the distressed family of Lamia Akhter, who tragically committed suicide after being raped in Patuakhali. Lamia Akhter was the daughter of Jasim Uddin, a martyr of the 2024 July uprising, who was shot by police during the movement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a delegation led by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Chief Advisor of 'Amra BNP Paribar' Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed visited Naldoani village in Dakshin Pangasia Union of Dumki Upazila. During the visit, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi conveyed Tarique Rahman's message of sympathy to Lamia's family and provided financial assistance to her grandfather, Sobhan Hawlader, the father of martyr Jasim Uddin.
The delegation included Atiqur Rahman Rumon, convener of 'Amra BNP Paribar' and BNP Media Cell member, Engineer Mostafa-e Zaman Selim, advisor of 'Amra BNP Paribar', Krishibid Mokchedul Momin Mithun, permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club Zahidul Islam Rony, and central organizing secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Md Amanullah Aman. They attended Lamia's Namaz-e-Janaza at the local school ground at 7:45 pm and later visited the grave of Jasim Uddin.
On March 18, Lamia Akhter was raped while traveling to her grandmother's house in Pangasia Union. The perpetrators took sensitive photos, threatening to distribute them on social media. Feeling helpless, Lamia was found hanging in her rented house in Dhaka on April 26. She was taken to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where she was declared dead by the attending doctor.
