Dhaka: The National Independent Investigation Commission has once again issued a public notice, urging 18 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to testify regarding the 2009 BDR carnage. This is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to gather testimonies for a thorough investigation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the list of individuals summoned by the commission includes notable figures such as former security affairs adviser Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, and several former lawmakers like Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Jahangir Kabir Nanak. The commission has requested electronic media outlets to display this public notice as a scrolling message for seven days to ensure widespread awareness.
The notice has been officially published on the commission’s website, bdr-commission.org. This follows a previous notice on March 8, which initially called 15 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, to provide testimonies regarding the events of February 25-26, 2009. The earlier summons included former army chiefs and other high-ranking officials, urging them to communicate their availability for testimony within seven days via various convenient means.
The commission has stressed the option for online testimonies through video conferencing, highlighting the urgency to complete the testimonies by March 31. This structured approach aims to expedite the inquiry process given the time constraints.
