Dhaka: Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain will attend the UN Peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin, scheduled from May 13 to 14, marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this announcement came during a meeting between visiting UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, and Adviser Hossain at the foreign ministry. The UN Peacekeeping Ministerial is set to function as a high-level political forum where the future of peacekeeping will be discussed, and Member States will have the opportunity to express and demonstrate their political support.
The event will also serve as a platform for delegations to announce significant pledges aimed at closing capability gaps and adapting peace operations to better respond to existing challenges and new realities. During the meeting, Foreign Affairs Adviser Hossain emphasized Bangladesh's exceptional contributions to UN Peacekeeping.
Hossain reiterated Bangladesh's steadfast dedication and commitment to supporting UN Peacekeeping efforts, strengthening global partnerships, and upholding peace, security, and development worldwide. In response, Under-Secretary-General Lacroix praised Bangladesh's outstanding and multifaceted role in peacekeeping, recognizing its longstanding and dynamic participation in various UN peace operations.
