Biral: A murder case has been filed in connection with the killing of a prominent Hindu community leader, Bhavesh Chandra Roy, in the Biral upazila of Dinajpur. The victim's son, Swapan Chandra Roy, lodged the case with the Biral Police Station, naming four individuals and four unnamed others, as confirmed by the OC of Biral thana to BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the named accused are Atikur Islam from Basudevpur village, Raton Islam from Shohorgram, Munna Islam from Narsingpara, and Rubel from Panchshala village. The case diary reveals that Atikur and Raton were involved in local money lending, known as dadon. Bhavesh reportedly borrowed Tk 25,000 from Atikur a year ago, agreeing to repay Tk 3,255 monthly as interest. Despite making regular payments, Bhavesh fell behind on his payments recently due to financial difficulties.
On the afternoon of April 17, the accused allegedly visited Bhavesh's home on two motorbikes, enticing him to leave with them under the guise of discussing an urgent matter. Swapan stated in the case that his father became unreachable afterward, with calls to his phone going unanswered. Later that evening, Swapan received a call from his father's number, followed by another call from a different number, where Raton reportedly informed Swapan that his father had fallen ill at Narabari Bazaar and asked him to come fetch him. As Swapan was in Dinajpur town at the time, he requested the men to bring his father home.
Subsequently, the accused are said to have transported Bhavesh to Fulbari Bazaar by van-rickshaw and abandoned him by the roadside. Locals then took Bhavesh to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police have stated that further investigation is ongoing, with efforts being made to identify and apprehend the unnamed individuals involved in the case.
