Satkhira: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has successfully apprehended a life-term convict, Ariful Islam Rasel, who had been evading capture for 11 years following a case filed under the Narcotic Control Act.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ariful Islam Rasel, the son of Esa Ali Sardar from Gunakorkati village in Assasuni upazila, was arrested by a RAB team that acted on a tip-off. The operation took place in the Boalia area under Paikgachha Police Station in Khulna district. Following his capture, Rasel was handed over to Assasuni Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Ariful’s legal troubles began in 2013 when he was arrested while transporting drugs, leading to a case being filed against him under the Narcotics Control Act at Rajbari Sadar Police Station. Although he was initially released on bail, Ariful chose to abscond, prompting legal proceedings in his absence. Subsequently, the court sentenced him to life-term imprisonment, a verdict delivered in absentia.
