Dhaka: The government, through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO), has provided free legal advice to 4,74,618 justice seekers from 2009 to March 2025.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the NLASO, a statutory organization under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, confirmed these figures in its monthly update on the NLASO website. The report highlights that 2,41,343 individuals received legal advice from legal aid offices across 64 districts.
The NLASO also reported that 1,86,268 people accessed legal advice via the national toll-free helpline 16430, and 25,581 individuals were served by the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office. Additionally, 21,426 people were assisted by two labor law aid cells located in Dhaka and Chattogram.
The organization has successfully realized Taka 252,51,61,081 as compensation for insolvent justice seekers. Of this amount, Taka 245,88,34,866 was retrieved through district legal aid offices, and Taka 6,63,26,215 was secured via the labor law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.
Legal aid was administered in 4,21,364 cases, with 4,13,687 cases handled by district legal aid offices, 4,421 cases by labor law aid cells, and 3,256 cases by the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office. A total of 2,15,241 cases were resolved with the support of legal aid, including 2,12,151 cases from district offices and 2,286 cases managed by the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office.
Since 2009, the NLASO has extended free legal aid to 1,26,372 inmates, demonstrating the significant impact of the government's legal aid initiative.
