Dhaka: Commerce Adviser SK Bashir Uddin today expressed optimism that rice prices will become more affordable within the next two weeks. “The finer varieties of rice – particularly nazirshail and miniket – are primarily produced during the boro season. Boro rice will arrive in the market within two weeks,” he said after a meeting held to review the overall situation regarding the import and supply of edible oil and other issues at the Secretariat.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the commerce adviser highlighted that weather conditions have remained favourable this year. Additionally, the electricity supply has been stable and there has been an adequate availability of fertiliser, all factors contributing positively to agricultural production. Bashir Uddin expressed confidence in a good harvest of paddy this year, which is expected to lead to more affordable rice prices.

The commerce adviser further noted that agro-products are inherently dynamic, stating, “We are closely monitoring all essential commodities and taking necessary measures where price stabilisation is needed.”
