Dhaka: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced the development of a comprehensive master plan for modern waste management under the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP) for all divisional cities and municipal areas. Special initiatives will focus on urban greenery, particularly in Dhaka, to mitigate temperature increases.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana emphasized that necessary steps will be taken to rehabilitate vulnerable embankments in coastal regions. This statement was made during a meeting with a delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the Bangladesh Secretariat, which reviewed the progress of BCDP.
Rizwana asserted that with the support of development partners, BCDP will ensure safe and potable drinking water for coastal communities. The conservation of biodiversity will also be prioritized. To build institutional resilience, the initiative will focus on enhancing the professional knowledge and capacity of ministry officials to tackle climate risks.
She revealed that a dedicated working group will be established to outline the roadmap and formulate the action plan for BCDP. Rizwana also instructed the concerned authorities to launch the official website and other operational components of BCDP by July this year.
The meeting was attended by Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) Dr. Fahmida Khanom, and Senior Climate Change Officer of ADB Mousumi Parvin, among others.
