13 High Court Judges Appointed to Oversee Subordinate Courts Nationwide

Dhaka: Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has reconstituted the committee responsible for overseeing subordinate courts across the nation’s eight divisions. The Supreme Court administration released a notification on April 10 to formalize these appointments.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chief Justice has established 13 distinct ‘Monitoring Committees for Subordinate Courts’ to ensure effective supervision. In addition to these committees, 13 judicial officers have been appointed to provide secretarial support for this initiative.



Among the newly appointed monitors, High Court (HC) division Justice Md. Habibul Gani will supervise the Rajshahi-2 Division, covering Bogra, Joypurhat, Pabna, and Sirajganj. Justice J. B. M. Hassan is assigned to the Barishal Division, including Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jhalokati, Pirojpur, and Barguna. Justice Md. Akram Hossain Chowdhury will oversee the Dhaka-1 Division, which comprises Dhaka, Narayanganj, Gazipur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, and Tangail. Justice Mahmudul Hoque has been given oversight of the Khulna-1 Division, which includes Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jessore, and Narail, while Justice Zafar Ahmed will monitor the Khulna-2 Division, covering Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, and Magura.



Justice Razik-Al-Jalil has been tasked with the Mymensingh Division, covering Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, and Netrokona, while Justice Fatema Najib will oversee the Dhaka-2 Division, which includes Kishoreganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, and Madaripur.



Additionally, Justice S M Kuddus Zaman will monitor the Chittagong-1 Division, comprising Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari. Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar is responsible for the Rangpur-1 Division, covering Rangpur, Gaibandha, Kurigram, and Lalmonirhat. Justice Ahmed Sohel will supervise the Chittagong-2 Division, which includes Noakhali, Feni, Laxmipur, Comilla, Brahmanbaria, and Chandpur. Justice Sardar Md. Rashed Jahangir will oversee the Rajshahi-1 Division, encompassing Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, and Natore. Justice K. M. Hafizul Alam is tasked with monitoring the Rangpur-2 Division, which includes Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh, and Nilphamari, while Justice Md. Atabullah will oversee the Sylhet Division, covering Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.



Initially, on January 27, 2022, eight judges were appointed to supervise the subordinate courts in the eight divisions. This number was later increased to 13 in October 2023, leading to the current restructuring.
