Dhaka: Mohammedan Sporting Club finally ended their win-drought against archrivals Abahani Limited by securing a 39-run victory at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today in a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, since the league gained List A status in 2011, Mohammedan had been unable to clinch the title. Their last triumph over their old foes came in 2016, and they had subsequently lost 11 consecutive matches to Abahani, turning what was once a high-voltage contest into a one-sided affair.

Despite not winning the DPL title since it gained List A status, with their last victory dating back to the 2009-2010 season, Mohammedan entered this year determined to reclaim the elusive trophy. They assembled a formidable team, transforming their squad into a mini national team by enlisting several capped players.

Even though their captain, Tamim Iqbal, was ruled out of the league following a cardiac arrest, Mohammedan's strength remained undiminished. The team demonstrated their prowess against Abahani, signaling that capturing the DPL trophy might be within reach this season.
