Dhaka: Chief Adviser and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission Professor Muhammad Yunus today called for advancing reform activities quickly with the goal of holding the national elections between December 2025 and June 2026. He made this call at a meeting with two members of the Consensus Commission at the State Guest House Jamuna here this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and its member Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder joined the meeting. Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser (Consensus Building) Monir Haider was also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, Professor Ali Riaz and Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder briefed the Commission chief on the progress of the Commission’s activities. They mentioned that separate discussions are underway with political parties regarding the recommendations of the reform commissions of the interim government. So far, discussions have been completed with eight political parties, and a meeting is scheduled to be held with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Thursday.
They also highlighted that various programmes have been initiated to gather public opinions on the reform agendas and to raise public awareness about the reforms. At this time, Commission Chairman and Chief Adviser Prof Yunus emphasized the importance of holding talks with political parties and advancing the overall reform process to ensure the national elections are held within the specified timeframe.
