UK Trade Envoy Discusses Bilateral Trade Expansion with Bangladesh Commerce Adviser

Dhaka: UK trade envoy to Bangladesh, Rt. Hon. the Baroness Rosie Winterton, met Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat today. The meeting centered on issues of bilateral interests, with a focus on improving trade, commerce, and investment between the two nations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir emphasized that the UK is a key export destination for Bangladesh and suggested that the bilateral trade volume could be increased by eliminating existing trade barriers. He encouraged the UK trade envoy to involve the private sector to further enhance bilateral trade relations.

UK trade envoy Rosie Winterton acknowledged the UK's ongoing support for Bangladesh's various reforms, including those related to the economy. She showed a keen interest in assisting with trade negotiation capacity building and the development of trade policy, as part of the support extended to the Ministry of Commerce.

The meeting was also attended by British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke and Commerce Secretary Mabubur Rahman.
