Dhaka: A group of scholars and educationalists has recommended the University Grant Commission (UGC) to step up and intensify supervision on research works to enhance research quality. The scholars put forward the proposal while speaking in an academic seminar arranged by UGC's Research Grants and Award Division held at the UGC here today with its director Dr. Duraga Rani in the chair.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was joined by teachers from various public universities. The scholars also instructed limiting the numbers and pages of researches, fixing the aims and objectives of research works, dropping unnecessary topics from the research works, and preparing separate papers for science and technology, arts, and business fields.
Speaking as the chief guest, UGC member Prof Masuma Habib highlighted that teachers of government colleges are producing significant research works and contributing to knowledge creation comparable to university teachers. She emphasized the necessity of creating a database of these teachers, suggesting that based on their excellence, they could be posted in renowned government colleges across the country. An outline will be submitted to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education in this regard.
Addressing the seminar as the special guest, UGC secretary Dr. Fakhrul Islam stressed the importance of initiating research works from the college level to enhance the country's research quality. He underscored that research, creativity, critical thinking, and communication skills are essential for building a New Bangladesh. Dr. Islam mentioned that UGC has already initiated steps to preserve research quality by creating a database.
