National and International Sports Day Celebrated with Rally and Discussion in Cumilla

Dhaka: The National and International Sports Day-2025 was observed here today in a befitting manner. This year’s theme of the day is “Youth Participation, Improving the Quality of Sports”.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the District Administration and the District Sports Office jointly organized a colorful rally from Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium, also known as Cumilla Stadium, at 10 am. The rally concluded at the same venue after parading through various city streets and points, marking the significance of the day.



Following the rally, a discussion was held at the stadium, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pankaj Barua. Among the speakers at the event were Member of District Sports Organization Ahasan Ullah Shapon and former Joint-Secretary of the Cumilla District Sports Organization. The discussion also saw participation from former treasurer of District Sports Organization Sheikh Sohrab Uddin Rajib, President of Cumilla District Karate Association Gazi Mamun, Cumilla Zilla Cricket Coach Habib Moballeg James, and other distinguished sports persons and organizers from the district.



The speakers highlighted the role of sports in developing intellectual and critical thinking skills among children and youth. They discussed how sports foster a competitive spirit, discipline, perseverance, responsibility, and a sense of duty. The need to keep the young generation away from drugs and crime through sports was emphasized, along with the importance of infrastructural development in the sports sector.



Concluding the day’s events, a friendly cricket match was organized, bringing together participants and attendees in the spirit of sportsmanship and community engagement.
