Rangamati: A youth was killed when lightning struck him at Bagachattar village under Langadu upazila of the district today. The deceased was Jabed Ali, 20, son of Babul Hossain, a resident of Ward No-6 of Bagachattar union of the upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident occurred around 1.30pm while Jabed Ali was working at his agricultural land in the village. Ferdous Wahid, Officer-in-Charge of Langadu Police Station, confirmed that the lightning struck Jabed Ali during the afternoon.
Locals rushed to the scene and took Jabed Ali to Longadu Sadar Hospital. However, Mostafa Monir, a physician at the hospital, stated that the on-duty doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
