Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has rounded up 235 individuals through operating patrols and checkposts as part of its security arrangements across the city to ensure public safety and law and order. In the last two days, a total of 432 persons were apprehended through these measures, as 1,334 patrols and 142 checkposts were operated during this period, as per the statistics of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the last 24 hours, 667 patrol teams and 71 checkposts were operated. The patrol teams performed duties in two shifts for public safety under its 50 police stations from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm on Wednesday, as reported by the DMP’s Crime Command and Control Center. Out of these, 340 teams performed duties at night, while 327 teams were active during the day. The patrol teams included 479 mobile patrol teams, 73 foot patrol teams, and 115 motorcycle patrol teams.
In addition, 71 police checkposts were operated by the DMP at various important and strategic locations to enhance security in the metropolitan area. Along with the DMP, 14 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) patrol teams (two shifts), 12 Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) patrol teams (three shifts), and 10 RAB patrol teams were on duty at various crime-prone areas of the metropolis, and 20 checkposts were operated by the APBn, a specialized unit of the police.
In the last 24 hours, 235 people involved in various crimes were arrested in eighty-three combing operations conducted in different areas of the city. The arrestees include seven robbers, 13 professional active muggers, three extortionists, 12 thieves, 37 individuals wanted in previous cases, and 23 identified drug dealers. In the operation, law enforcement recovered a foreign-made revolver, 36 rounds of bullets, four crude bombs, two samurais, one switchgear knife, a knife, a dagger, two scissors, 65 mobile phones, one tab, a rickshaw, Taka 2200 in cash, among other items.
Additionally, the drugs recovered included 6,847 pieces of Yaba, 26 liters of locally made liquor, 480 grams of ganja, and 3 grams of heroin. In the last 24 hours, 82 cases were filed with different police stations of DMP. Police filed a total of 137 cases in the last two days.
