Chattogram: Three people, including two students, were killed when a speeding bus collided with a battery-run rickshaw in the Dohazari Sadar area on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway under Chandanaish upazila this morning. The incident has left the local community in shock as details of the tragedy unfold.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victims were identified as Wakar Uddin Adil, 12, and his elder sister Rizvi Akter, 16, children of Jashim Uddin from Jamir Juri Chairman Bari. The rickshaw puller, Ruhul Amin, 45, son of the late Amanat Ullah from Chan Gazi Bari, also lost his life in the accident.

Shuvo Ranjan Chakma, officer-in-charge of Dohazari Highway Police Station, reported that Adil was a seventh-grade student, and Rizvi was a ninth-grade student at Pathshala Public School and College. They were on their way to coaching classes when the rickshaw was hit from behind by a Chattogram-bound Purabi Paribahan bus from Bandarban. The impact was severe, and one student along with the rickshaw driver died instantly.

Another student succumbed to their injuries while en route to the hospital. A fourth student, who was also injured in the accident, has been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The police have seized the bus involved in the crash; however, the driver and the helper managed to escape the scene, as stated by Chakma. The incident underscores the ongoing concerns about road safety and reckless driving in the region.
