Rangpur: A court here today sentenced four people to life imprisonment after five years in the sensational Khorshed Alam murder case of Kawnia police station in Rangpur, over a money dispute. Along with this, the court has fined each of the convicts Taka 10,000, or in default, they will suffer an additional six-month jail term. Senior District and Sessions Judge of Rangpur Fazle Khoda Md. Nazir delivered the verdict in presence of the convicts in the courtroom this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the life imprisonment convicts are Shahidul Islam, son of Abdul Baten of Shyampur village, Russell Mia, son of Ayub Ali of Godadhar village, Yunus Ali, son of Shahjamal Hello of Mahesha village, and Mamun Mia, son of Abdul Mannan of Shyampur village under Kawnia upazila in the district. The prosecution stated that due to a dispute over the money owed, Shahidul Islam called Khorshed Alam from the Bharsha Cold Storage in Kawnia upazila at 11 pm on March 20, 2020, and strangled him to death behind
the tin-shed building of the nearby Mirbag Degree College. He then hung the body from a mango tree branch there.
In this incident, the victim’s mother Khadija Begum filed a case with Kawnia police station as the plaintiff. After examining 17 witnesses and evidence of the case during the hearing, the judge handed down the verdict. Public Prosecutor of Rangpur Advocate Md Aftab Uddin stood on behalf of the state, while lawyers Advocate Md Zahirul Alam and Advocate Md Abdur Rashid Chowdhury defended the accused side in the case.
