Satkhira: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday intervened to save an individual accused of bicycle theft from an agitated crowd in the Toluigacha area under Satkhira Sadar Upazila. The individual was subsequently handed over safely to Satkhira Sadar Police Station, as per a BGB press release.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident occurred around 10:00 pm when locals apprehended Md. Abul Hasan, a 30-year-old resident of Dakshin Toluigacha village, near the Toluigacha Border Outpost. He was accused of stealing a bicycle and was subjected to severe physical assault by the crowd.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a patrol team from BGB’s Taluigacha BOP arrived promptly at the scene. They intervened to rescue the individual and prevent further mob violence. The situation in the area became extremely tense as the crowd attempted to seize the accused from the BGB’s custody.

To manage the escalating situation, three platoons of BGB personnel were deployed to the scene. They worked to calm the crowd and restore order. Meanwhile, teams from Satkhira Sadar Police Station and Kalaroa Police Station also arrived to assist.

Despite efforts to hand over the accused to the police, the crowd resisted. The BGB managed to disperse the agitated crowd without resorting to force, and the individual was eventually handed over to the police, as stated in the press release.
