Eight Defense Ministry Establishments Renamed to Remove References to Sheikh Hasina

Dhaka: The interim government has announced the renaming of eight Sangsthas, institutions, and establishments under the Ministry of Defense, effectively removing names linked to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her family, and associates from these entities.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ministry of Defense issued an order this afternoon, signed by the ministry secretary Md Asharf Uddin. The order indicates that the new naming will take effect shortly in the interest of public welfare. The Chief Adviser, who currently oversees the Ministry of Defense, has approved the decision affecting eight establishments, including those related to the Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, the Military Command and Staff College, and the Ministry of Defense itself.



As per the new directive, BNS Bangabandhu in New Mooring, Chattogram, will now be known as BNS Khalid Bin Walid. Similarly, BNS Sheikh Mujib at Namapara Khilkhet in the capital has been renamed BNS Dhaka. BNS Pekua in Cox’s Bazar has also been renamed, removing its association with Sheikh Hasina.



In the Bangladesh Air Force, the base formerly known as Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu at Dhaka Cantonment, Kurmitola, will be called Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam AK Khandaker. The Bangabandhu Aeronautical Center located within the Air Force premises in Kurmitola, Dhaka, is now the Bangladesh Aeronautical Center. Additionally, the BAFA Bangabandhu Complex at the Jashore BAF Academy will be referred to as the BAFA Complex.



The Sheikh Hasina Complex at the Military Command and Staff College in Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka, will now carry the name DSCSC Complex. The ‘Bangabandhu Memorial Museum’ within the Ministry of Defense at the Ganabhaban Complex, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, has been renamed as ‘Defense Museum’.
