Govt to Ensure Tougher Action Against Rapists: Home Adviser

Dhaka: Home Adviser Lt. Gen. (retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today announced that the government will ensure the trial of individuals involved in recent rape incidents. “The government will ensure trial of the miscreants who were involved in recent rape incidents . . the accused would be brought to book,” he stated.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these comments during a visit to the minor child who was gang raped in Magura, at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) this morning. He emphasized that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take strict action against harassment and rape, and directives have been issued to expedite investigations and submit reports to the court regarding violence against women.



During his visit, the home adviser was briefed on the victim’s treatment and instructed the hospital authorities to ensure she receives maximum care. CMH high officials were also present during this visit.



Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury affirmed that women should be able to perform their duties both inside and outside their homes without fear or hesitation. He assured that those who oppose or commit violence against women will face justice.



Earlier, the home adviser contacted the victim’s mother to inquire about the child’s condition and assured her of maximum treatment facilities. The child had been transferred to CMH from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) the previous day.



A case has been filed against four individuals at Magura Sadar Police Station for charges of rape and attempted murder of the eight-year-old girl in Magura. The adviser reiterated that the home ministry remains vigilant and committed to ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. “All should also be aware about violence against women as we always maintain family, social and moral values,” he added.
