Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today ordered authorities concerned to complete the trial of the case filed over the barbaric rape of a child in Magura, within 180 days. A High Court division bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury passed the order, asking the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal concerned to execute the order.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also instructed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove all the photos of the eight-year-old rape victim from all types of media, including social media platforms, within 24 hours. Additionally, the authorities were directed to appoint two social welfare officers-one in Dhaka and one in Magura-to oversee the protection and medical care of both the child and her 14-year-old elder sister.
The High Court issued these directives after a hearing on a writ filed by Barrister Hamidul Misbah and Barrister Mahsib Hossain. The two petitioners, along with Barrister Mithun Roy Chowdhury, presented the plea before the court, while Deputy Attorney General Tanim Khan represented the state.
The victim’s mother lodged the case, accusing the husband of her elder daughter and his father of raping her eight-year-old younger daughter. The case story further reveals that the mother of the accused son-in-law and his elder brother were aware of the horrific crimes. They allegedly attempted to cover up the incident by confining the victim and her sister separately in two houses after the rape and even tried to kill the victim.
