Dhaka: Adviser to Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Ministry, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, has declared that there will be no gender discrimination in the new Bangladesh following the July Uprising. Speaking at the “Best Self-reliant Women Award 2025” event organized by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Dhaka, he emphasized the commitment to ensuring women’s presence and participation at all levels.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Mahmud, who also serves as an adviser to Youth and Sports, highlighted the detrimental impact of excluding women from decision-making and power-related processes. He noted that women constitute nearly 51 percent of the population, and their involvement is crucial for the nation’s overall development. He drew parallels between the collective efforts of men and women in achieving independence and the significant role women played in the July Uprising of 2024.
The adviser addressed concerns about security, acknowledging that some individuals are attempting to threaten the safety of women in the post-uprising period. He called on law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against these wrongdoers and assured that those involved in violence against women and children would face exemplary punishment.
Asif Mahmud congratulated the awardees of the Best Self-Reliant Women Award, expressing hope that their achievements would inspire other women to overcome challenges. He also urged officials to focus on increasing women’s participation in all LGED activities.
The event, chaired by LGED Chief Engineer Md Abdur Rashid Mia, also featured remarks from Md Nizam Uddin, Secretary to the local government division.
