Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today warned of required actions against any activity of outlawed Hizb ut Tahrir or any other banned organisations. 'In line with Bangladeshi law Hizb ut Tahrir is banned-declared organisation. Hizb ut Tahrir was declared banned in 2009 by the government as it was considered as a threat to public security,' a DMP statement said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP added: 'If any banned organization including Hizb ut Tahrir conducts meetings, rallies and carryon propaganda in any means of propaganda, necessary legal actions will be taken by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.' The DMP issued the warning one day ahead of Hizb ut Tahrir's planned 'March for Khilafat' at the North Gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Zohr prayer in Dhaka, a programme which they campaigned through pasting posters in walls across the city.
The statement reiterated that under the Anti-Terrorism Act-2009, all activities including meetings, rallies, processions, distribution of posters-leaflets and other means of propaganda by any banned organization are punishable offenses.
The imam of the Baitul Mukarram Mosque, meanwhile, in an announcement after Asr prayers today said the government asked the mosque authorities to request ordinary people not to take part in activities of any outlawed organizations.
