Dhaka: National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reduced the existing source tax on the import of raw materials used to manufacture cancer medicines. The decision aims to make cancer treatment more accessible in the country by lowering the source tax from 5% to 2%.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, NBR issued an SRO on Sunday to implement this tax reduction. The move comes as cancer treatment facilities in Bangladesh are limited, forcing many patients to seek advanced treatment abroad, which can be costly and challenging.
Talking to BSS, a senior official of NBR stated that the interim government has taken several initiatives to make treatment for cancer and other complex diseases locally available. This reduction in source tax is part of a broader effort to enhance the availability and affordability of medical treatment within Bangladesh.
