Rajshahi: The National Voters’ Day-2025 was observed in the division as elsewhere in the country today in a befitting manner aimed at spreading awareness among the youth on democracy, election, and voting rights. On the day, officials and others concerned took out a colourful rally from the office premises of the Regional Election Office that ended near the office of Divisional Commissioner after parading some thoroughfares.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a discussion meeting was held at the conference hall of the Divisional Commissioner, emphasizing the importance of encouraging the common people to cast their votes to strengthen democracy in the country. Divisional Commissioner Khandaker Azim Ahmed addressed the discussion as the chief guest, while Deputy Inspector General of Police Muhammad Shahjahan and Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Muhammad Abu Sufiyan spoke as special guests. The meeting was chaired by Regional Election Officer Delwar Hossain.
The theme of the day this year is “Tomar Amar Bangladesh, Vote Dibo Milemishe”. Commissioner Azim Ahmed expressed that National Voters’ Day will make young people aware of voting rights, contributing to giving democracy an institutional shape. The spirit of this day is intended to encourage the registration of new voters, the deletion of the names of deceased voters, and the transfer of voters to desired addresses.
The meeting was informed that there are currently 1,57,12,921 voters in the division, including 2,50,756 new ones. It was also mentioned that anyone can resolve their voter-related issues by phoning the toll-free number 105 from anywhere and at any time.
Earlier, the day’s program was inaugurated by releasing pigeons and balloons. District and upazila-level offices of the Election Commission also observed the day in all eight districts under the Rajshahi division with due manners.
