Dhaka: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced plans to implement one-way traffic systems at several key intersections in the capital city from February 28 to March 8. This initiative is aimed at alleviating the persistent traffic congestion experienced during peak hours, which has been a source of considerable inconvenience for commuters.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the one-way traffic system will be enforced at Abul Hotel, Madina Hotel, Malibagh Railgate, and Khilgaon Community Center crossings. The directive, signed by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, outlines that vehicles approaching from Abul Hotel Crossing will proceed eastwards through Medina Hotel Crossing to Khilgaon Community Center Crossing. This adjustment is expected to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion in these high-traffic areas.
The statement further clarifies that vehicles coming from Khilgaon Flyover will continue straight west from Khilgaon Community Center Crossing and make a right turn at Malibagh Railgate Crossing, heading towards Rampura Bridge. Additionally, vehicles traveling from Khilgaon and Taltala towards Abul Hotel will continue southward, bypassing a right turn at Medina Hotel Crossing. At Khilgaon Community Center Crossing, vehicles will have the option to turn right and proceed towards Rampura Bridge or Mouchak via Malibagh Railgate.
The DMP has urged drivers to adhere to these new traffic instructions during the specified period to ensure a smooth transition. The cooperation of the public is being sought to achieve the desired reduction in traffic congestion and improve the overall commuting experience.
