Sylhet: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain today called upon imams to significantly contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and afforestation, alongside their responsibilities in social matters. ‘If contemporary issues are presented in light of the Quran and Hadith, people will embrace it. It is necessary to highlight the issues in mosque sermons (Khutbah),’ he stated at a motivational seminar at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was organized under the project titled ‘Improving the quality of life of the people of Haor area and motivating them through Imams for biodiversity conservation.’ Dr. Khalid emphasized the importance of imams avoiding unfounded and unrealistic discussions in their sermons and encouraged them to engage in income-generating activities as part of their roles.

Dr. Khalid mentioned that the pre-sermon prepared by the Islamic Foundation includes contemporary issues such as curbing terrorism, corruption, drug abuse, prevention of violence against women, and the responsibility towards parents. The event featured Sylhet Range DIG Md. Mushfequr Rahman, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim, and Police Superintendent Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman as special guests, with Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi presiding over the seminar.

The seminar saw participation from a diverse group, including government officials, imams, and journalists, among others.
