Dhaka: The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is set to initiate special nationwide drives throughout Ramadan to combat food adulteration. Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan announced this initiative during a press briefing at the Ministry of Industries’ conference room.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BSTI’s special drive aims to prevent adulteration and ensure quality control of essential items during the holy month. A press release indicated that the focus will be on checking the quality of iftar items, baby food, fruits, and cosmetics.

The BSTI plans to deploy three mobile courts daily, including holidays, in Dhaka city. These operations, supported by law enforcement agencies, will prioritize product quality, food adulteration checks, and prevent issues with weight-tampering and measurement discrepancies.

Adilur Rahman Khan emphasized that similar mobile courts will operate every day across the divisional, district, and regional offices of BSTI. Ramadan is expected to commence on March 1 or 2, contingent upon the moon sighting on the upcoming Friday.
