Commemorative Meeting Honors Memory of Pilkhana Tragedy Martyr Elahi Manjur

Sunamganj: A memorial meeting commemorating the 15th death anniversary of Pilkhana tragedy martyr Lieutenant Colonel Elahi Manjur Chowdhury was held at the Shaheed Muktijoddha Jagotjoty Pathagar last night. The event was organized by the relatives, friends, and well-wishers of Shaheed Elahi Manjur Chowdhury.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was chaired by retired principal Prof. Parimal Kanti Dey and featured speeches from numerous distinguished figures. Among the speakers were Elahi Manjur’s elder brother and former president of the Sunamganj Bar Association, advocate Humayun Manjur Chowdhury, local public prosecutor Mallick Moinuddin Sohel, and former presidents of the district bar association, Rabiul Rois Rakesh, Nazrul Islam Shefu, and Tayebur Rahman Babul.



Other notable speakers included Prof Syed Mohibul Islam, president of the district corruption prevention committee, poet Sukhendu Sen, Elahi Manjur’s sister-in-law Rahena Manjur Chowdhury, district Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami advocate Shamsuddin, president of Jatiyatabadi lawyers’ forum advocate Masuk Alam, advocate Bazlur Rashid, and general secretary of the district bar association advocate Nure Alam Siddiqui Uzzwal.



Advocate Ainul Islam Babul, a childhood friend of Elahi Manjur and former general secretary of the district bar association, delivered the welcome address. During the meeting, speakers reflected on the life and works of Elahi Manjur Chowdhury, acknowledging his contributions as a military officer. They expressed pride in his legacy, which is cherished both in Sunamganj and throughout the country.



The memorial event also paid tribute to the 57 army officers who lost their lives during the tragic events at the then BDR headquarters at Pilkhana on February 25, 2009.
