Chattogram: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested 34 leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League from different parts of the city in the last 34 hours, ending at 1 am on Wednesday night. They were arrested on various charges, including attacking protesters during the student-led July uprising and other criminal offenses, CMP sources said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests took place as part of an ongoing investigation into incidents connected to student protests earlier this year. The protests, which were part of a broader movement, had seen significant participation from students across the city, leading to heightened tensions and clashes with law enforcement.
The detained individuals are reportedly facing charges related to their alleged roles in these confrontations, as well as other criminal activities. The CMP has been actively pursuing leads to ensure accountability and maintain order in the city following the disturbances.
The arrests have drawn attention to the actions of political leaders and their affiliates in the context of public protests, prompting discussions on the balance between political activism and law enforcement. The CMP has reiterated its commitment to upholding the law while ensuring the safety and security of all citizens in Chattogram.
