Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today paid glowing tributes to martyred army officers in Pilkhana carnage on National Martyred Army Day. “On this day, I remembered the glorious sons of the soil, the martyred army officers with heavy heart and paid homage to them. I also prayed for eternal peace of their departed souls and conveyed deep sympathy to their bereaved families,” he said in a statement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief adviser noted that today, 25th February, National Martyred Army Day is being observed for the first time. The current interim government has decided to observe this day as National Martyred Army Day every year to honor all the martyrs of the brutal Pilkhana massacre that occurred on this day in 2009.
Dr. Yunus highlighted that the family members of the martyrs are still waiting to receive justice for the murder of their relatives after so many years. He stated that the nation was left in confusion for many years following the brutal killing of the brave army personnel in Pilkhana.
As a commitment, he emphasized that Bangladesh is dedicated to ensuring justice for this brutality. “We are working in this regard. At the same time, I hope that the country and the people with compassion will stand by the family of the martyrs and all the oppressed,” he added.
Prof Yunus expressed that from this day forward, “Being a guide of our spirit and feelings, the day will remind us of the unexpected and brutal death of a group of brave people with a vow to fight for the country.”
In remembrance of their sacrifice, he stated, “As a nation we are pledge-bound as we can guide ourselves in the right direction. May no more lives be lost due to misrule, conspiracy and arrogance!” He also expressed his hope that people can reach their deserved destination through their own merit and talent with self-respect and human rights.
The chief adviser further remarked that Bangladesh should strive to become an ideal benchmark in the pursuit of building a world free from hunger, poverty, and unemployment. On this day, in memory of the martyred soldiers of the nation, he said, “Let us make a pledge to build a self-reliant and civilized Bangladesh.”
