Dhaka: A court here today ordered the seizure of 16 bank accounts containing Taka 2.39 crore belonging to former social welfare minister Dr Dipu Moni over graft allegations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court’s decision was made by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib, who approved a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The plea, submitted by ACC Assistant Director SM Rashedul Hasan, aimed to prevent Dr Dipu Moni from transferring or relocating her movable properties, which could potentially obstruct the ongoing investigation against her.

The ACC’s plea highlighted that a total of Taka 31.09 crore had been deposited in Dr Moni’s bank accounts, with Taka 28.70 crore already withdrawn. Among the 16 accounts, 15 were with Bank Asia, and one was with Dhaka Bank.

Dr Dipu Moni was arrested on August 19 from the city’s Baridhara area and is currently in custody as the investigation into the graft allegations continues.
