Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas has called upon the interim government and law enforcement agencies to concentrate on identifying the real ‘devils’ lurking within government offices and administrative bodies.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mirza Abbas addressed these concerns during a seminar titled ‘Tarique Rahman’s 31-Point State Structure Reform Proposal and Public Engagement’, organized by the Mugda Thana unit of Dhaka South City BNP. The event was held near the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Mustafa Kamal Stadium, where Abbas emphasized that the government’s decision to launch ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ should target individuals in public offices rather than those in remote areas.
Abbas highlighted, ‘The devils of Awami League are entrenched in government offices, from the union office to the DC office, the secretariat, and other institutions. These are the elements leading this government astray.’ He stressed the importance of focusing on these internal threats to ensure a more effective operation.
Referring to the BNP’s longstanding demand for elections, Abbas stated that their request is logical and beyond reproach. He noted that the BNP has been advocating for the people’s voting rights for the past 15 years, with numerous leaders and activists having sacrificed for this cause. The BNP’s call for timely elections is aimed at restoring the people’s right to vote.
Criticizing plans for local government elections, Abbas warned that holding such elections before the national election could allow ‘Awami fascists’ to exploit the opportunity to regain power. He described this as part of a ‘sinister conspiracy.’
Abbas also mentioned the recent meeting between BNP Secretary General and the Chief Advisor, expressing gratitude to Dr. Muhammad Yunus for confirming the national election by December. He cautioned against any attempts to delay the election by prioritizing local body elections, stating that such moves would face strong opposition.
The seminar was chaired by Dhaka South City BNP Convener Rafiqul Alam Maznu and featured speeches from other notable figures including Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal President Afroza Abbas, BNP Foreign Affairs Committee Member Ishraque Hossain, BNP Executive Committee Member Habibur Rashid Habib, and Dhaka South City BNP Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin.
