Gazipur: Sarjis Alam, a key organizer of Jatiya Nagorik Committee (JNC) and coordinator of the anti-discrimination students’ movement, today demanded the immediate arrest and trial of the attackers on students in Gazipur. ‘The cohorts of killer Hasina including Awami League, Juba League, and Chhatra League activists are still roaming freely in and around Gazipur…Those terrorists are threatening us openly on social media platforms,’ he alleged.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sarjis Alam, sounding a note of caution, said that if law enforcement and intelligence agencies fail to capture those attackers by tonight, they will stand against those terrorists. He addressed a protest rally organized by the Gazipur district and metropolitan unit of JNC at Rajbari Field.
The rally was also addressed by Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah, JNC’s Central Organizer Adv. Ali Naser Khan, Central Member Adv. Sakib Md. Soaib, Anisur Rahman of JNC Gachathana unit, and Suman Bari of JNC Kaliakair unit, among others. Sarjis emphasized that the students and citizens of the country have shown patience to build the state, but there is a limit to their tolerance, warning that exceeding this could lead to another revolution.
He further warned that if any of their fighters are harmed anywhere in Bangladesh, the entire nation will rise against the criminals. Adv. Ali Naser Khan called for the cancellation of Awami League’s registration as a political party and demanded trial of the fascists under the Speedy Trial Tribunal. He also demanded the freezing of bank accounts and assets of AL leaders and supporters involved in the attack on students at AKM Mozammel Haque’s house.
The protest follows an incident on Friday night when anti-discrimination student leaders were attacked by Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League activists in Gazipur’s Dheerashram area. Earlier, at around 3:00 am on Friday, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam visited the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur to see the injured.
