Dhaka: Bangladesh women’s national football team will be honoured with the Ekushey Padak 2025 in the sports category for their outstanding achievement last year. The award recognizes their remarkable performance in winning back-to-back titles at the SAFF Women’s Championship in 2022 and 2024, held in Kathmandu, Nepal. The team was led by the prolific Sabina Khatun.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in addition to the women’s football team, fourteen other individuals will also be recognized with the prestigious award for their contributions to various fields. The Cultural Affairs Ministry announced the names of the recipients at a press conference on Thursday.

The Ekushey Padak is the second highest civilian award in Bangladesh, introduced in memory of the martyrs of the Bengali Language Movement of 1952. It is awarded to individuals and groups to acknowledge their contributions across several domains, including culture, social service, education, and economics.
