Fortune Barishal: Fortune Barishal captain Tamim Iqbal today urged his teammates to stay calm in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), saying that holding the nerve is key to the success in winning the most important game of the tournament. “The team which can stay calm has the chance to win the title. This was my experience after playing BPL final twice,” Tamim said here at the pre-final conference.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tamim expressed that he was under more pressure this time in the qualifying matches and emphasized the importance of maintaining composure. Having played in the final twice before, Tamim shared his hopes for the team to deliver their best performance in the final match against Chittagong, scheduled for tomorrow at 7 PM at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Leading Barishal to their first BPL title last season, Tamim aims to guide his team to another victory, which would make them the third team to win the BPL title more than once.
“We all say that the final is the most important match of the tournament. But in such a situation, you must be very calm. If you get nervous and if you can’t control the pressure, you will make mistakes,” Tamim remarked. He highlighted the need to create more opportunities than their opponents and to seize crucial moments to retain the title.
Barishal’s reputation as a balanced team was evident as they topped the group phase by winning nine out of 12 matches, securing a spot in the playoffs. They advanced to the final after defeating Chittagong Kings in Qualifier-1. Chittagong, on the other hand, had to win Qualifier-2 to earn their place in the final.
Tamim acknowledged the experience within the Barishal team, noting that their players have faced pressure in various situations and have generally managed to overcome it. He emphasized the culture within the franchise that promotes relaxation and respect for all players, regardless of match outcomes.
He stressed that respect for cricketers is guaranteed within the team, and players are neither overly praised for their performance nor harshly judged for failures. This approach, Tamim believes, has been key to their success in the BPL over the past two years.
