Dhaka: Stocks today witnessed an upward trend after showing five days of negative trend as opportunistic investors continued taking positions in the sector-specific scrips. DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), slightly advanced by 11.2 points to settle at 5,145 points as against 5,134 points in the previous trading session.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the total turnover in DSE edged up by 1.2% to Taka 3.7 billion, compared to Taka 3.6 billion in the previous session. On the sectoral front, Pharma issues exerted the highest turnover at 19.6%, followed by Textile and Bank sectors at 10.9% and 10.2%, respectively.
Most sectors displayed mixed returns, with General Insurance, IT, and Life Insurance exhibiting the most gains on the bourse today at 3.2%, 2.4%, and 1.0%, respectively. On the other hand, Financial Institutions, Jute, and Mutual Fund sectors saw some corrections, declining by 1.0%, 0.9%, and 0.7%, respectively. Out of the 397 issues traded, 171 advanced, 160 declined, and 66 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, also settled on green terrain. The Selective Categories' Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 7.0 and 12.5 points, respectively, reflecting positive momentum in the market.
