Tentulia: The county's lowest temperature today dropped to 7.9 degrees Celsius at Tentulia, exposing the poor, elderly people, and children to miseries there till noon in the northern region. The local Met Office sources said the minimum temperatures dropped by two to three degrees Celsius although the maximum temperatures mostly remained unchanged in the last 24 hours ending at 6 am today in the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, "The temperature may continue to drop in the next few days and a mild cold wave may blow in the region in the next few days," said Rangpur Meteorological Office Chief Md Mostafizur Rahman. Besides, the minimum temperatures recorded today were 11.9 degrees Celsius at Rangpur, 11.9 degrees at Dinajpur, 10.2 degrees at Saidpur, 10.5 degrees at Dimla, and 9.6 degrees Celsius at Rajarhat monitoring points in the region.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperatures showed very little fluctuation at most places and remained between 22.8 degrees and 26.6 degrees Celsius today in the region. Like yesterday, the weather remained better as the sun appeared in a clear sky free from fog and clouds today across the northern region where common people conducted their daily activities normally.
Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mostafa Zaman Chowdhury noted that doctors continued to treat ailing people with cough, fever, asthma, and other cold-related diseases at the hospitals and health facilities today as in the previous few weeks. "We have adequate stock of medicines and special steps were taken at the government-run health facilities to treat cold-related patients, including babies and children in the district like in other areas of the region," he added.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRRO) stated that the district administrations, NGOs, and other organizations have been continuing the distribution of warm clothes to cold-hit people in all eight districts of Rangpur division. Rangpur DRRO Md Motahar Hossain mentioned that the government allocated 5,000 more blankets on Thursday, raising the total number of allocated and locally purchased blankets to 33,372 pieces for Rangpur district. "Distribution of 33,372 pieces of blankets allocated so far is nearing completion in the district," he added.
Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for Rangpur region, Agriculturist Md Obaidur Rahman Mondal, stated that the cold wave didn't cause any harm or cold injuries so far to any variety of growing winter crop plants. "Our officials are assisting farmers in taking proper care of growing Rabi crop plants and Boro rice seedlings. Transplantation of Boro rice seedlings continues amid sunny weather despite temporary foggy weather in the morning in recent days," he added.
