Chattogram: The leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) today formed a human chain at Chattogram Customs House (CCH), urging the public to reject fascist allies and work towards eliminating corruption and irregularities at the CCH.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ADSM leaders also called on the members of the C and F Agents Association (C and FAA) to reject Awami fascist allies in the upcoming elections by voting for candidates with clean reputations. The event was presided over by ADSM's Chattogram District Coordinator Omar Faruk Sagar, and included speeches from student representatives, including those injured during the July mass uprising, who expressed their solidarity with the human chain.
Following the human chain, the student representatives met with the Commissioner of CCH, Zakir Hossain, to present their demands. The ADSM leaders described Chattogram Port and CCH as the "golden gateway" of Bangladesh, noting that these facilities contribute significantly to the country's revenue income. They accused the ousted Awami League government and its allies of pushing these economically vital installations to the brink of collapse through unchecked looting and corruption.
The ADSM leaders claimed that Awami beneficiaries have already been identified to prevent future irregularities. They also noted that members of corrupt syndicates associated with the port and CCH are attempting to secure their positions in the upcoming C and FAA elections to rehabilitate themselves. The student leaders vowed to resist these fascist allies from participating in the elections to free the CCH and Chattogram Port from corrupt syndicates.
The student leaders issued a warning to fascist allies to cease their activities around CCH and Chattogram Port to foster a trade-friendly environment for honest businesspeople and entrepreneurs, who have faced harassment and financial losses due to bribery and extortion during the past 15 years of autocratic rule.
ADSM leaders Md. Shahed, Shahidul Islam Sajib, Shafiqul Islam Zia, Fahim Ahmed Sagar, Farhan Jamil, Tausif Imroz, Kayem Hossain Abid, Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Md. Rashed, Sagar Hossain, and Md. Rafi, among others, attended the program.
