CHANDPUR: The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) in a drive seized 500 kilograms of jatka [hilsa fry] from Charbhairabi area under Haimchar upazila of the district this morning. On a tip-off, a team of the BCG conducted a drive in the river Meghna around 6 am and seized the jatka from Machghat area, said Sadar upazila fisheries officer M Mizanur Rahman. Later, the seized fishes were distributed to orphanages, madrasha and poor people, he said.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lieutenant Fazlur Rahman, commander of Chandpur Coast Guard Station, stated that no arrests were made in connection with the seizure as the real owner of the jatka could not be found during the operation. He further emphasized that such operations will continue in order to protect the Hilsa fish population.
