Navy Holds Seminar on Annual Sea Rehearsal in Khulna

Khulna: Bangladesh Navy here today held a seminar to mark its annual sea rehearsal aimed at creating awareness among the public in general to protect the sea and its resources. Held at BNS Titumir, the seminar was addressed by Rear Admiral Golam Sadeq of Bangladesh Navy as chief guest stressing the need for an integrated working plan for development of the blue economy.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, General Manager of Khulna Shipyard Captain Shafiqul Islam and Commander Rashedul Karim also spoke at the seminar. Various issues, including capacity development of Mongla Port Authority, removing the problems related to navigability in the internal rivers, and sustainable shipbuilding processes were discussed. The speakers also talked about developing eco-friendly sea industries, conservation of sea biodiversity, and tactics for protecting internal water bodies from pollution.

They also addressed the need for ensuring alternative employment for coastal people during the ban on harvesting fish. Rear Admiral Golam Sadeq directed the Bangladesh Navy personnel to put in their best efforts to protect the maritime boundary of the country and safeguard the valuable marine resources scattered across the vast sea area. He urged the personnel to curb smuggling, piracy, and illegal fishing activities.

Terming Bangladesh Navy a modern force globally, Rear Admiral Sadeq highlighted that submarines, frigates, modern warships, helicopters, marine patrol aircraft, and modern military equipment have been added to the naval fleet.
