Bangladesh Youth and Junior Handball Teams Fall Short in Semifinals

Lucknow: The Bangladesh youth U-18 and junior U-20 handball teams faced defeats in their respective semifinals during the qualifying round of the IHF Men's Handball Trophy 2024-Asia, hosted in Lucknow, the capital of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Uzbekistan youth handball team triumphed over the Bangladesh youth team with a score of 42-22, after leading the first half by 18-13 goals in the semifinal matchup. In another semifinal match, the Uzbekistan junior U-20 handball team secured a victory against the Bangladesh junior team, finishing with a score of 34-20, after leading the first half by 18-9 goals.

Earlier, on Sunday, the Bangladesh junior handball team experienced a 48-38 defeat to host country India, where they trailed the first half by 24-16 goals. The tournament features a total of eight teams, with youth and junior teams from four countries participating. These countries include Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and host India. The winners of this tournament will earn a direct qualification to the World Cup.
