DHAKA: The government has expanded the prosecutorial team at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) by appointing four new prosecutors, increasing the total number to 13. This strategic move comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the legal framework and expedite proceedings.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the newly appointed prosecutors are Md Abdus Sobhan Tarafder, Md Sahidul Islam Sarder, Faruk Ahammed, and Md Hasanul Bannah. The appointments were formalized through a gazette notification issued by the solicitor wing of the Law and Justice Division, and the order is effective immediately.
Md Abdus Sobhan Tarafder has been appointed with the status of Additional Attorney General, while Md Sahidul Islam Sarder and Faruk Ahammed have been given the status of Deputy Attorney General. Md Hasanul Bannah will hold the position of Assistant Attorney General. These appointments follow a series of previous appointments, including five prosecutors on October 25 and another four on September 7, when Supreme Court Advocate Muhammad Tajul Islam was made the Chief Prosecutor.
The expansion of the prosecutorial team is expected to enhance the tribunal's capacity to handle cases efficiently and deliver justice in the ongoing trials related to international crimes.
