DHAKA: President Mohammed Shahabuddin emphasized the importance of extending the benefits of national welfare activities to all citizens, particularly the destitute and helpless, in a statement delivered on the eve of National Social Service Day-2025. The president highlighted the government's commitment to ensuring social security and improving the quality of life for marginalized groups.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, President Shahabuddin stressed that ensuring social security is crucial for reaching the benefits of the country's welfare activities to every individual. In his message, he expressed satisfaction with the Ministry of Social Welfare's initiative to celebrate National Social Service Day, underscoring the importance of establishing a discrimination-free welfare state by guaranteeing fundamental rights.
The president noted the government's extensive initiatives to support elderly people, widows, women facing domestic violence, disabled individuals, disadvantaged children, and marginalized communities. These efforts aim to enhance social justice and protect human rights. The theme for this year's National Social Service Day, "Those who have no one by their sides have social service," aligns with the government's objectives, according to Shahabuddin.
Under the National Social Security Strategy, the Government to Person (G2P) system and strategic reform programs are pivotal in strengthening social safety nets and reducing poverty. President Shahabuddin emphasized the importance of delivering government benefits to the truly destitute, advocating for a transparent and non-discriminatory verification process to include eligible individuals in social security programs.
The president expressed optimism that with collective efforts, Bangladesh could be established as a modern welfare state. He extended his best wishes for the success of all programs organized for National Social Service Day-2025.
