DHAKA: Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has called for a roadmap from Malaysia to resolve the situation of Bangladeshi workers who were unable to enter Malaysia by the May 31 deadline this year. This request was made during a meeting with newly appointed Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mohd Shuhada Othman, at the foreign ministry.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting follows Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to Dhaka on October 5, during which he pledged to consider the cases of 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who missed the entry deadline. During the discussion, Touhid and Othman explored various avenues for collaboration, including trade, investment, manpower, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding, and renewable energy. The talks also covered potential investments and partnerships to enhance economic ties between the two nations.

The High Commissioner highlighted opportunities in the Malaysian car market in Bangladesh, which could signify growing economic engagement. Additionally, the Foreign Adviser extended congratulations to Malaysia for their upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship, set to begin in January 2025.

Touhid assured the High Commissioner of full support during his tenure in Bangladesh, expressing hopes for a successful and cooperative period ahead.
