Tarique Rahman Calls for Unity to Restore Democracy in Bangladesh: Fakhrul

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called upon all to collaborate patiently to restore democracy in Bangladesh. Fakhrul made these remarks upon his return from London, where he had met with Rahman, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul emphasized the importance of unity and patience in achieving democratic restoration following what he described as a significant victory through a student-led mass uprising. He highlighted that the initial step towards democracy is the election, urging everyone to prepare and cooperate to ensure its success. Fakhrul also noted that his visit to London was productive, as he engaged with party leaders and expatriates, and participated in various meetings.

When questioned about Tarique Rahman’s return to Bangladesh, Fakhrul indicated that Rahman faces numerous legal challenges that need resolution before his return. Furthe
rmore, Fakhrul mentioned that political parties are in support of an interim government led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, with expectations that the government will proceed with necessary reforms to facilitate elections.

Fakhrul’s visit to London commenced on November 30, accompanied by his wife Rahat Ara Begum, who sought medical consultations during the trip. Upon their return, they were welcomed at the airport by several BNP leaders and members of the BNP Media Cell.
