DHAKA: Supradip Chakma, Adviser for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, emphasized the importance of an innovative, knowledge-based education system to invigorate society, as he addressed an audience at an event commemorating 'International Hill Day-2024.' The event took place at the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex Seminar Hall in the capital's Bailey Road area. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chakma highlighted the need for quality expertise, skills, and empowerment, underscoring the role of innovative education systems in achieving a sustainable future. He advocated for aligning the thinking of the hilly region's inhabitants with modern global perspectives through quality education. Chakma also addressed the necessity of updating practices related to the region's natural environment, including the sustainable use of bamboo as a potential agricultural resource. He called for increased efforts in water conservation, specifically referencing the Kaptai Lake, and urged for the adoption of innovative meth ods to manage water resources from rivers, canals, and streams effectively. The discussion was presided over by CHT Affairs Secretary AKM Shamimul Haque Siddiqui and included contributions from Senior Secretary Sudatta Chakma, CHT Development Board Vice-Chairman Ripon Chakma, and district council chairpersons from Khagrachhari, Rangamati, and Bandarban. Additionally, Supradip Chakma inaugurated a museum and collection centre located on the fifth floor of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex building, enhancing cultural and historical awareness within the community.
