NARSINGDI: Narsingdi Freedom Day was commemorated with a series of events organized by the district administration, featuring a rally and a discussion meeting to honor the memory of those who fought for the region's liberation. Residents participated in a vibrant rally that traversed the town and concluded at the District Commissioner's office. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day's proceedings commenced with a rally from Shilpakala Academy, which saw participation from various sections of the community and ended at the District Commissioner's office. The rally highlighted the historical significance of the day and paid homage to the freedom fighters who played a pivotal role in the liberation of Narsingdi. The events continued with a discussion meeting held at the deputy commissioner's conference room. Among the speakers were Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rashed Hossain Chowdhury, Police Super Mohammad Abdul Hannan, and numerous freedom fighters. The deputy commissioner emphasized the contribut ions of the freedom fighters, recognizing them as the greatest sons of the soil, and acknowledged the sacrifices made for Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty. Narsingdi's liberation on December 12, 1971, followed a period of intense conflict during which the Pakistani army conducted a brutal massacre across the district. Over nine months, 116 individuals from the district were martyred, having engaged in numerous skirmishes against Pakistani forces. The events of Narsingdi Freedom Day serve as a solemn reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for liberation.
